What I love about this place, is they offer free samples, so you're happy with whatever you ultimately choose. This was my third visit, and I ordered the 2 meat chicken breast and pulled pork. In the past I only got the pulled pork(it being my favorite bbq item), but, in the mood for something new, I asked about the chicken breast and was promptly offered a generous sample. O...M...G! It was incredible! Tender, moist, with a flavor that is out of this world! I was sorry I'd included the pulled pork this time, after trying the chicken! My sides were the bbq pork and beans, which were SO spicey, my mouth was on fire! Also got the waffle fries. The cook made them fresh, right after I'd ordered them, so they were piping hot...this is pretty much a rarity, being served hot waffle fries in any of the other restaurants we've had them at. I was a bit discouraged with their sides on my past visits, either finding them way too spicy for my taste, or it was terribly dried out from sitting in a warmer all day. I've pretty much decided to skip any sides in the future, and just pig out on the awesome meats they offer. Everyone I've encountered there has been super friendly and helpful. I get the impression they really like their jobs! One way to improve the Dickey's "experience" would be to post their menu on the wall as you come in. That way, while standing in line, people can get an idea of what they want to order before they get to the order taker.

I would so like to rate this place as highly as I did in my earlier review because it's the only Texas-style BBQ in the area. There are still positives in tonight's experience. The chicken breast and brisket sandwiches for the six of us were good quality, although the greasy onion rings and tasteless waffle fries would not encourage a return. However, the kitchen/servi ng area was practically chaotic. At 5;30 on a Friday night, they no longer had mac and cheese or cole slaw! The slicer and the other servers clearly couldn't handle six orders, and the wait time because of the slow slicer was ridiculous. The place needs supervision!!! No one seemed to be in charge. A place like this that wants to handle large orders for tailgate parties and catering events will not make it with incompetence like this.

I've been eating Dickey's BBQ all my life so it's great to finally find some good Texas BBQ in Milwaukee. I've been over 6 times in the past month because the food quality, service, atmosphere is consistently good. Texas BBQ is all about beef brisket and sausage with great sauces. Both pass the test at Dickey's and the ribs are just as good. If you want good ole Texas BBQ, go to Dickey's and enjoy.

it's hard to write a review on a place that doesn't really stand out in any way. the food is mediocre at best. only the meat is made in house. everything else comes precooked in bags. be ready to stand in line for 20 minutes while you watch complete chaos on the other side of the counter. nobody here really seems to have any idea what they're doing which would be somewhat entertaining if it didn't result in a long wait and having a completely wrong order when you leave. the owners are first time restauranteurs so its no surprise that the place isn't run very well. the staff is like some kind of rag tag team of degenerates who appear to also have no restaurant experience. all of which are led by the front of the house manager who, from what i could tell, is some kind of trailer park troll princess or something. barking orders loudly and arguing in front of customers. as if her appearance wasn't offensive enough, she's equipped with one of the worst old smoker lady voices as well. the decor is piss poor cheaply made and hastily put together. nothing i had to eat here was good. i'm guessing it will be out of business in less than 6 months.

Food is amazing! Went here last week and back again today. Found a new spot to eat! I like the daily specials. The only downside is if you don't want the daily special you're paying about $15 because there isn't combo options. Great idea for a BBQ joint. A must try! And yes the brisket is good.

Going in for the first time I was unaware that this was a "fast food" bbq place. I was extremely rushed while attempting to scan the menu and order with no one else in line behind me. When asking a serious question, the guy at the counter would constantly try to be funny and charming, but instead came off sarcastic and rude, never really answering the question. I asked for a sample of bbq beans and the guy gave me mac & cheese to be funny, not considering that a customer could be lactose intolerant (like me). The food tray was greasy and dirty from the workers handling the food and then the tray. The brisket sandwich looked bland and mediocre and ended tasting just the same. Wish I rate this place 0 stars. Never going back.

First time visiting Dickeys and came with the family (2 adults and 2 kids) on a Sunday. First, the fact that kids eat free on Sundays was a real bonus. We had no idea what to chose and ended up getting the family meal with brisket and two kids meals. We loved the brisket and the sides received mixed reviews. The green beans were great and there were mixed reviews on the Mac and cheese and loaded potatoes. The fee ice cream was pretty cool as well. We had plenty left over for dinner the next day so it was money well spent. We will definitely come back again.

Wow! I don't understand how this place doesn't score higher. Yes, it is "expensive"... but I think it is quite worth it given the taste and quality of food. Phenomenal brisket that melts in your mouth, awesome fried okra with no hint of greasiness or old oil, jalapeno beans that are quite delicious, macaroni and cheese that simply tastes better than most places can muster, and pretty decent coleslaw. I really liked the smokiness of the brisket, as it helped it to have great flavor. I was rather indifferent to the barbecue sauce that was available, as I thought the brisket stood up on its own and didn't need it. My wife had the smoked turkey breast and it was also pretty fantastic. Free self-serve ice cream cones for dessert. How can one go wrong? Decor was typical and felt a bit fast foody. The place was moderately clean, and a customer that spilled an ice cream cone even stopped to get it cleaned up. I was stuffed even though the portions look small. I'm happy to see a place provide more appropriate portion control, as I will stuff every last bit of it into my mouth even if I'm past full. All in all, the value was probably a C+/B-. Food taste B+/A-. I'll be back. :)

I have been to a couple of these restaurants in the past few years. Usually they are ok. I was really impressed by the one on miller parkway. The staff was very pleasant and the foot was hot and flavorful. It really seemed like they paid attention to detail as for cleanliness, attentive service, etc.

Fantastic, slow-smoked BBQ joint that serves it up on a tin sheet. Free soft serve for dessert, too. Generous portions, great flavor, nice place.

Went on a few different occasions since it is close to home. I have to say that I enjoy the selection of options they have available and love the combo plates to try a little bit of everything. I agree with one of the other reviewers in that the consistency can vary depending on when you go. I went recently for a combo plate and I loved the chicken! Good flavor, tender, juicy, and just hit the spot. Added some sauce to it and it was just what I needed. Tried the brisket on the other hand and it tasted dry and flavorless, as delivered to me on the plate. Once I added sauce to it that definitely helped, however wasn't what I expected with bbq beef brisket. The sides were very bland as well as of store bought and not homemade. The few times I have gone I have had mixed experiences but it has been later in the evening. Next time I try I will go earlier in the day and maybe the meat will be fresher and more consistent.

I mean, I didn't expect Memphis/KC levels of BBQ and it's essentially fast food and if you keep that in mind, I think this place falls squarely in the "not bad/A-OK" zone - a good alternative for take out, especially on the west side of town. Both times I've gone, I've been early in the dinner period (5 pm-ish) and both times they were out of the ham. Clearly they need to re-asses their par levels and make some more. The first time I went I asked the "sides girl" some questions about the various items and she couldn't answer me. She admitted she hadn't tasted most of the food. While I wasn't expecting 5-star service, I do think the people working in a restaurant should have eaten it's food and be able to be conversant in it so when I ask if something is spicy they can answer. Other than that, we were happy with our ribs, brisket and pulled pork. Items are packed from the smoker in small batches, so you're not getting meat that's been sitting on the board for a long time. The brisket was juicy and the "carver" did a great job of cutting up the piece and putting it back together so you got a good piece of all the different areas. If you have reasonable expectations for Milwaukee strip mall BBQ, I don't think you'll be disappointed here.

Fast-casual counter style BBQ. It was excellent! We ordered the Saturday special, which was a brisket sandwich with two sides and a drink. I ordered mac n cheese as both of my sides, because I love mac n cheese and I had to share with my toddler. ;) The sandwich and the mac n cheese were delicious. They have a similar special every day of the week except Sunday. There is a kids menu and kids eat free on Sunday. The drinks include a wide variety of soft drinks (Coke products) and sweet tea. They have extra sauce available for free at the counter. They also have free self-serve ice cream and ice cream cones! The food was great quality and the price was reasonable. They also had high chairs and booster seats available. There is a parking lot with angled parking in front of the building, so parking was easy. Also, free wifi is available.

I ordered a quarter plate. Pulled pork with beans and Mac and cheese. To be honest everything was OK and the order was correct. But that was it. Everything was just average. Nothing really stood out. There was nothing that made me want to hurry back for more. That's why only 3 stars.

  • Brian J.

The food is good, but the prices not so much. I thought I'd get a lot more for the money than you do. Better to use this place for catering than for a lunch spot. The only thing I didn't like were the jalapeño baked beans. Not very spicy and tasted really "green." Otherwise the food is good. Service was great. Only gets three stars because I didn't feel like I got a good value.

Had the 3 meat plate was again average at best... I was really disappointed thinking that there game may have stepped up with more time. The meat plate including sides was cold, fatty, and stringy. Again very disapointed!!

I'm a fan of Dickey's, and have been to a few locations (Madison, Pewaukee, and this one). By far the Madison one has the best run operation, friendly people, and consistent food (I agree with others, the food quality isn't consistent--can be cold, dried, or warm and moist). This location is the smallest of the ones I've been to, and it is a very weird setup. Not sure where the start of the ordering is, in a curved bar type thing. Anyway, I love the chicken and they were out of it. I don't understand why or how they can be out of something (or it not being ready, whatever the issue is). So I had to get something other than what I went there for. I was irritated to say the least. But, still ate there and got the brisket and pork, both were good & fresh, and the side of jalapeno beans and coleslaw was good also. It's a long VERY narrow setup, which is just awkward, half the tables are right next to the soda / utensil station, so there are people standing 3 feet from you while you eat. Wouldn't probably be back to this location, will stick to the others but it wasn't bad.

I finally stopped in and had the brisket sandwich and is was bad. The sandwich comes with a side of bbq sauce which is the way to go. It comes with three pickles topped one on the other, why bother spreading them out. See the picture. It has a outer ring of raw onion which was strange. I don't like bbq sauce on the meat so I can taste the meat. I ate a couple pieces of the meat before getting to the sandwich and I couldn't taste any smoke flavor, actually very bland. Well I tasted the bbq sauce and it was smokey, sweet with a spicy finish. I liked the sauce and it had a better BBQ flavor than the brisket did. I poured it all over the sandwich and ate it. The brisket was dry and hard too swallow. I noticed the only flavors I really tasted was the onion and sauce. I have had BBQ all over if you look at my reviews and this was bad. The owner should go to smoque in Chicago and have the brisket to see what brisket really is, it's the best I have had. I'm still going to try the ribs before I write dickeys off. The mc rib would have been better at half the price and tastier. I would not recommend the brisket to anyone who wants good brisket. I was not expecting the best but I'm amazed at how bad it was.

Had a great first experience this past week at Dickey's. The staff was sweet and very friendly and the food totally hit the spot. The brisket was absolutely delicious... I honestly can say that it was better than I had anticipated! We will be back. It was a great way to end the day... Yum!

I love BBQ so I thought I'd ignore the mixed reviews of the Pewaukee location and try this place. We went on a Saturday night at 7:00. My wife ordered a half rack of ribs. They were fall off the bone tender. They put sauce on at the counter without asking, so if you prefer dry rub, you have to stop them. I prefer my ribs a little chewy but these were decent. I ordered a 3 meat plate with brisket, pulled pork and chicken. Unfortunately they were out of brisket and the guy in front of me got the last of the chicken. I settled for turkey and cheddar sausage to go with the pork. The pork was fatty, greasy and short on flavor. The sausage was ok , but the turkey while moist, seemed like a pressed turkey roll instead of real turkey. For sides we tried the fried okra , onion rings, potato casserole and Mac and cheese. They were out of the green beans with bacon. The Mac n cheeses was blah, but we liked the other 3. The potato casserole looked odd, but it was really tasty. I really wanted to like this place. The owner was there and thanked us for coming. However I have to say, I'd you want BBQ on this side of town, stick to Double B's on Greenfield. Finally, they feature free ice cream at Dickeys. This is Wisconsin. You can't call soft serve ice cream here

A friend of mine (David Sherman) turned me on to this place and I am really glad he did. Awesome. A fast food version of smoker cooked meats. Everything tasted wonderful. The line was a little long, but hey, I guess that reinforces my statements above. Keep up the great work, I will be returning once a week for lunch!

I've been to my share of BBQ Restaurants and this is my new favorite! We visited following work so we go the XL family pack with brisket, pork, and spicy cheddar sausage. Sides were Mac and Cheese, BBQ beans, onion straws and waffle fries. I can't say a bad word about any of it. All was fresh, hot and abundant. The smoke ring on the pork was perfect, and tasted fantastic. Brisket melted in your mouth, and sausage was as advertised, spicy and cheesy! We finished everything and I got a pound of brisket to go, for lunch the next day, knowing it was in the fridge though, it didn't make it until lunch. U may have noticed I didn't say anything about the sauce. Well, it was the best spicy BBQ sauce of any restaurant that I can remember having since my childhood hometown favorite. Honestly I didn't try the sweet or regular sauces but the others seemed to like them. I'm hoping there are more than just the three in the Milwaukee area as I plan to hit them as often as my heart allows. And as if u needed more, they have soft serve ice cream, the iced tea was very good, and the workers were extremely pleasant and helpful. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. And in case your wondering, no I don't know anybody that works there or have any vested interest other than hoping they franchise more stores to Indiana.

  • Marissa K.

Pretty good, nothing like the BBQ I so loved in Texas. But better than famous dave's. Brisket is not the best, too much fat and not enough meat, the BBQ sauce is too sweet for my taste. The pulled pork and Mac n cheese is good. The potato salad has way too much dill, that's all you taste. Price is okay, we always get a family pack. Pretty good though. One thing to add, most sides are out a lot like the baked beans and green beans, you should make more backups

Went to Dickeys off a recommendation from one of my co workers. I had to say the experience started off poorly as I walked up to the counter where no one greeted me until the woman standing right in front of me said "did you have a question?" (in a very rude tone). I was temped to say "yes can you refund my money please." On to the food. We had the sliced brisket and pulled pork. First off, they gave us on small serving of bbq sauce which was probably what they give people for a single portion so the majority of our food was left unsauced, Which is not a bad thing if the meat is moist and flavorful....which it wasnt. The pulled pork was very dry and didnt taste like itd been seasoned in any way. The brisket was much better, again, a bit overcooked but had a nice smokey flavor even without any sauce. the cole slaw was dry and flavorless as well. Quite a let down, but I shouldve known, Speed Queen is the King in milwaukee.

Sort of greasy, not flavorful and still a little dried out in spite of the grease. The stuff is poorly presented. If you want bbq go to Ashley's, some of the best ever.

  • Jay h.

So, an overall FYI, the owner reached out to me and I responded. Haven't heard back. I also reached out to the owner a week ago before writing this update. No response. That tells me on the surface they appear to be concerned, but lack the wherewithal to follow up. Co-Worker went in last week. Called ahead and arrived at the time order was to be ready. She waited another 20 minutes. Once back, the order was missing sides and an order was incorrect. It was only 6 entrees/sandwiches. The atmosphere hasn't improved - manager was yelling at staff and looking for an Andy. And yes, portions are inconsistent. A scale is only as good as the user. Comparatively, when you have multiples of the same sides and can visibly see the difference, there is an issue with portion size. I'm sorry, this place is scratched off the list. Even if someone else does the running.

So this was my first & last time at Dickey's...Let's start w/the atmosphere...at first I thought I was walking into a Famous Dave's(that's not a bad thing) it was nice & clean. There seemed to be moments of miscommunication between the staff and it showed. Next... the point to this review, the food: The ribs were can you say SALTY apparently someone dumped the whole box on them. The smoked taste was too much for me. We also had the turkey which out of the whole meal was the best thing(for a business known for their barbeque). The sides were nothing to write home about. The green beans were bland and soggy, the mac & cheese was cheesey... but ok. So what's the big rave w/this place?...If you like a lot of salt and smoke taste this is the place for you. We make better ribs at home on our grill. Sticking to my Speed Queen!!!

I was craving BBQ on a Sunday night and remembered that I had driven past the Miller Parkway location earlier in the week. I looked Dickey's up on Yelp and saw mixed good and bad reviews - not a good sign when there are not many reviews to begin with. I decided to ignore this and gave them a shot anyways - this was a mistake. I ordered the Texas Chopped Brisket and two sides via the online ordering. When I arrived, everything was ready to go - no service issues whatsoever. Once I got home, I opened the box and was greatly underwhelmed - I had maybe an ice cream scoop and a half of brisket. Right away, I noticed that between a half and a quarter was unappetizing fat and gristle. I understand brisket is not the most lean meat on the planet and that "Texas Chopped Brisket" is likely a way to repackage / resell the brisket scraps cut off the top, but wow. Big time disappointed. Big time disappointed enough to take the time to create a Yelp account and post a negative review. The sides were surprisingly large compared to the entrée - nothing wrong with them at all, but nothing noteworthy either. The BBQ sauce and the roll were excellent though. Best of luck to the owners - it's always tough opening a new restaurant. However if what I experienced is representative of the restaurant as a whole, I do not expect it to still be there 12 months from now. Milwaukee doesn't have a wide variety for BBQ, but certainly enough to have options.

  • Nicole N.

I've been to both this location & the Pewaukee Dicky's, they're both just ok. We got 3 meat plates, the pulled pork was a little on the dry side, but was ok after putting bbq sauce on it. The brisket was ok, not as tender as some places I've been. I like the spicy sausage, but the temperature was not hot, hope I don't get food poisoning. :/ I liked the mac n cheese, but the waffle fries were a little too salty, so I left those. The place was pretty clean, which was great, considering we went in right after the start of the Brewers game this evening, and I'm sure there was a stampede. I might try it again sometime, but I'm not exactly dazzled by this chain so far. It definitely has nothing on Speed Queen.

  • Dan S.

Had a great first experience here. Staff was very friendly and nice. The ribs and brisket were awesome. The only minor issue is with the line. It goes a little slow. They should seat and serve ppl who are looking ro dine instead of waiting in line. Its a little confusing where to go when you get inside. Other than that, I will be a regular because its so close to home

  • Paul C.

Really happy to try a new place. Excited that Ribs on the menu BUT loved the Turkey so much more. I will return! Fun atmosphere, good food and friendly staff. 6 meats to choose from, many side dishes like traditional BBQ BAKED BEANS. Need to add corn on the cob. Hot fresh bun served with dinner plate best I ever are. Free ice cream cones when eating in the store.

Been here 4 times now and gotta say the bbq has been great every time. I havent found a better place in milwaukee now that the three stack shack truck in tosa appears to be closed. Forget the overpriced/hyped smoke shack downtown, carsons doesn't have enough of a smokeflavor, double b's has been dry the last two times, famous daves? Uggh. And I dont feel like traveling to the hood just for bbq. ( however now that ashleys has a new place in walkers point, I will have to try that.) The hold up on 5 stars? 1.)Do NOT mop the floor during a lunch or dinner hour, nothing like trying to enjoy a nice bbq dinner with a guy slopping a squishy wet mop 6 inches from your feet, if someone spills something, sure. Otherwise wait till mid afternoon and/or after close. Seriously. 2.)The sides. Since this is a chain, all sides are shipped in for uniforminty purposes. That unto itself isnt horrible, its the portion size. They only give you one scoop of a side, which only fills about half the Individual side container. So either fill these things up or get smaller containers, cause it just feels like their being petty and frugal, or your getting jipped, or both. I had to laugh when the other reviewer brought up the boisterous lady manager, I knew exactly what they meant. She does need to chill a bit. I've never attempted a weekday lunch, but I can understand how new place/employees might get a bit overwhelmed during a rush, but it will no doubt smooth out. This is my new go to for bbq as prices are reasonable, location is good, bbq moist and smoky and free ice cream like frozen treat for dessert!

We saw a coupon for Dickeys and decided to try it. We got the 3 meat plate with Turkey, Ham and Beef Brisket. The sides were onion strings, mac and cheese and okra. I wasn't a fan of the mac and cheese but everything else was FANTASTIC. The Turkey was especially good. Large portions of everything. Everyone was really nice and they said hello when we came in. We will be going back often. I want to point out a girl who helped us named Netta. She was so thoughtful and nice and made sure that everything was right for us. One of the best restaurant experiences we've had in a long time.

First time trying Dickey's. I got the 1 meat plate with the brisket waffle fries and coleslaw for my sides. The brisket and barbeque sauce were really good. The portion for the brisket seemed small though but the sides were pretty good. I'll probably return and try the other meats
